Scott Moore returns to the 5th Annual EMS Leadership Summit.

David Dachinger, a retired Fire Lieutenant and EMT with over 21 years in emergency services, has led initiatives in policy creation, fitness, and wellness, and has served as Shift Commander. Now the host of Responder Resilience, a podcast highlighting the challenges and triumphs of first responders. Bonnie Rumilly, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and EMDR therapist, specializes in trauma treatment for first responders. As the Clinical Director of the Fairfield County Trauma Response Team and a retired EMS Chief, she co-leads a peer support group. Together, they offer vital insights to support the resilience of the first responder community.

First responders often face behavioral and mental health challenges, including post-traumatic stress injuries and institutional abandonment. The Responder Resilience podcast focuses on self-care and modeling healthy behaviors for leaders, emphasizing gratitude and humility.

Culturally competent clinicians are needed to support first responders, and various programs and initiatives exist for mental health support. Finding outlets for processing trauma, such as art or hobbies, is important, and peer support teams and more resources in EMS are needed.

The hosts highlight multiple essential strategies for mental and physical health that can be used to make positive changes in organizations before providers are exposed to these inevitable traumas.
