Featured Speaker
Duncan McConnell, MBA, MCOM, MPA, MACPP

Hosted by:  Robbie MacCue

Duncan McConnell appears at the 4th Annual EMS Leadership Summit.

Duncan has been working in the EMS and Healthcare sector for over 25 years now with roles starting off as a volunteer in mid 90s right the way up to Senior Management roles within Australia and abroad. His experience spans government, military and non-government agencies, helping to develop and deliver transformational change across a globalised paramedicine network. Duncan has also worked within education and universities developing both undergraduate and postgraduate paramedicine university programs and is a Board Director on the International College of Advanced Practice Paramedics (ICAPP).

Duncan discusses the challenges faced by innovators who challenge the status quo, while emphasizing the importance of acknowledging successful efforts despite them not necessarily being beneficial to those in charge. Duncan uses his example of navigating this challenge after working for many different organisations in the EMS and healthcare sector internationally.

Additionally, the work of Peter Drucker is explored in terms of avoiding yesterday's logic and being flexible and creative when facing change. Ideas such as guarding against chameleons in the workplace who fit the status quo and having recognition for success are discussed, as well as the importance of having mentors and job satisfaction for overall wellbeing.

Finally, the value of employee retention and investing in talented staff is highlighted due to the positive impact on organizational success.
